Meet the Mindstreamer – Tom Palmier

After starting a newspaper in college (Truman State, 1999-2002) and going door-to-door to sell enough ads each week to print the paper for 3 years until he graduated, Tom Palmier was hooked on marketing. Building the paper from the ground up and solely shouldering the responsibility for revenue from ad sales was an eye-opening experience that started him down the career path he’s been on ever since.

As a Group Account Director in our St. Louis office, Tom is the primary agency contact for the brands he works with and is responsible for client acquisition, retention and growth. He works closely with the industry’s best and brightest at Mindstream to help deliver on the day-to-day needs of our brands and assist in high-level account planning and strategy.

Tom loves using his personality as well as his marketing experience to help clients solve business problems and find ways to help them grow their business. To stay on top of all the solutions the industry has to offer he reads blogs and publications by Gary Vaynerchuck, The Trade Desk, Centro, AdWeek, AdExchanger, 4A’s and the IAB. He offers this advice to anyone wanting to pursue a career in marketing, “Never stop learning. When I started out in the industry, we were just coming online. The world was changing and those that did not adapt were left behind. These types of changes are constantly happening in our industry, so we have to keep learning and adapting. This also applies to your client partners. Keep learning and stay curious about your clients’ challenges and problems, personally and professionally, and you’ll continue to unlock more ways to add value to your clients.”

Part of what Tom loves about working at Mindstream is the ability to dig in and tackle tough challenges for his clients. He says, “Mindstream Media Group brings the full spectrum of agency services to today’s brands. From holistic media planning and execution to custom analytics and reporting, we ensure strategic focus throughout the entire media plan.”

Like all marketers, Tom is anxiously following the third-party cookie phase-out. He notes, “The cookie was a simple, anonymous and cost-effective way to measure and track online advertising for small business owners and new laws and regulations are taking this tool away due to privacy concerns.” What will be the end result? Tom feels, “The “cookie-less future” will bring rising costs and elitism to online measurement and attribution without truly addressing privacy.”

On a brighter note, he sees huge potential in the growing popularity of influencers. Tom says, “Social media influencers can be an effective way to increase reach and engagement with your brand. Let’s discuss a solution that will work for you.”

Tom and his wife of 15 years, Sara, are the proud parents of two daughters, Marleigh (12) and Layla (10) and their dog, Bear (13). Having lived in St. Louis all his life, Tom is a huge Cardinal baseball and Blues hockey fan. He also enjoys golfing, camping, grilling, landscaping and “cheer-dad-ing.”

An enormous part of what makes Mindstream Media Group successful is the collective talent and collaboration of its employees across the country. While we as an agency love to share stories about client successes, industry news and product updates on our MMG Blog, we also want to feature the actual people behind the work we are doing to grow client business.

Our recent video series, Fast-Forward the Conversation, discusses the HOW behind supporting client growth through media strategy, with topics like shopper marketing, franchise work, QSR challenges, agency partnerships and strategic media campaigns.

We also feature a Mindstreamer (as we like to call ourselves) periodically to share their stories and celebrate the diverse people, backgrounds, interests and qualities that make us unique.
